Everything to check before you go

Each section pulls live data from the agencies that measure the coast (NOAA, the National Weather Service, NASA and Texas Parks & Wildlife) and from anglers on the water, so you can see the conditions for yourself instead of guessing.

Reading the conditions in four steps

  1. 1

    Check the water's moving

Fish feed when the tide moves. See if it's rising or falling, how big the swing is, and when the next high or low comes.

  2. 2

    Read the wind & pressure

Texas bays move with the wind more than the tide. Light winds and a steady or falling barometer before a front usually fish best.

  3. 3

    Line up moon & sun

Solunar major and minor periods, plus dawn and dusk, mark the best feeding windows. New and full moons bring stronger tides.

  4. 4

    See what's biting

Recent reports show which species are biting, where, and on what. Then check the ramp, the bait camp, and the cams.
